“Sing to Wisdom” Song Video

Sing to Wisdom, the Mother of Earth,
daily filling the world with Her birthing;
She created the rivers and seas;
all life flows from Her energy.

Sing to Wisdom, the Mother of Earth,
daily filling the world with Her birthing;
She created each gender and race;
all creation flows from Her grace.

When I was working on my high school graduation speech, I got stuck. I tried and tried to come up with something, but nothing seemed to work. What could I say that would be meaningful? My preacher/writer dad came to the rescue. He suggested I build the speech around this quote from the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson: “Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers.”

That quote resonated with me, but little did I know how Wisdom would transform my life. It would be years later before I experienced Wisdom as a female image of the Divine. Wisdom (Hokmah in Hebrew Scriptures and Sophia in the Greek New Testament) has become for me one of the most powerful divine names and images.

Wisdom is one of the most accessible, empowering divine images. Parental images may be ambivalent for some people, depending on their experiences with their own parents and/or with parenting. The image of Wisdom conveys a more reciprocal relationship. She invites us to a partnership relationship with Her.

Divine Wisdom dwells within, around, and above all of us. She empowers women to embrace our wisdom and all our creative gifts that have been devalued for centuries. People of all genders can be inspired to embrace aspects of their wisdom and creativity that have been traditionally labeled and demeaned as “feminine.”

Divine Wisdom took part in creation in the beginning (Proverbs 8). She calls us to continue creation, to co-create new life with Her. She has expanded my creativity beyond all I could have imagined. She has inspired my writing of song lyrics and all my writing.

Let us sing praises to Wisdom!
